• School Trips to Carnival Village

    Download full details here

Capturing the essence of Notting Hill Carnival, our school workshops and tours immerse pupils in the sights, sounds, and stories of one of the world's most iconic cultural events.

Through our specially developed Carnival Curriculum, children explore the history, music, and artistry of Carnival whilst also reflecting on what it means to grow up in a post-Windrush, intercultural Britain.

Our primary school programmes help pupils to meaningfully engage with both artistic practices and the historical processes that shape them, all in line with the Department for Education’s history framework.

Activities are led by experts in the field of carnival arts and offer learners the chance to explore notions of identity and heritage through steelpan, art, and storytelling.

These programmes take place at Carnival Village Trust’s dedicated venues - The Tabernacle (W11) and The Yaa Centre (W9) - bringing young people into the home of UK Carnival Arts.

This initiative will also culminate in an Annual Schools Exhibition, held at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill - one of Carnival’s most important landmarks. Here, pupils’ creative work will be showcased in a public celebration for families, educators, and the wider community.

  • Endangered Crafts Workshops

Endangered Crafts is a new workshop series dedicated to preserving and celebrating critically endangered carnival art forms.

From wire bending to traditional costume making, these vital crafts risk disappearing in the UK as the artists who hold this knowledge grow older, with fewer opportunities to pass on their expertise.

Led by master Carnival artists, Endangered Crafts offers a space for emerging creatives and community members to connect directly with these rare skills. Through hands-on workshops, participants will learn of the techniques and histories associated with traditional Carnival arts.

  • Carnival Chronicles: A Travelling Archive

Carnival Chronicles is a mobile archive that brings both the history and artistry of Notting Hill Carnival to new audiences.

From the streets of Ladbroke Grove to museums and public spaces nationwide, this project brings together rare photographs, oral histories, music, and costumes to tell the story of Notting Hill carnival, from its Windrush-era beginnings to the present day.
